You do not need to change your lifestyle to give into the economy, you simply need to change your business plan to work more effectively in the current economy. Different market conditions equals the need to change your marketing tactics. You as a real estate agent, a sales person, an employee simply have to understand that we are in a MORE economy and as you and your family are use to a certain income, a certain lifestyle….unless you make changes now that income will lessen and you will have to stop many of the so called “Extra” things in your life.
The easiest way to explain is the 5 = 25 theory, which I came up with during my coaching and sales training over the last 4 months. You have to understand that there is still plenty of business out there you simply need to reach out to more people to attain your expected lifestyle. If in 2005 for every 5 prospects/clients you were working with turned into money that substantiated your income….currently now in 2008 you need a higher number to maintain that same income, so you may need 25 prospects/clients. Some of you may be on a 10 = 50 or a 25 = 100 situation. Regardless of the ratio you get the point that MORE IS NECESSARY. Means more leads, more marketing, more prospecting, more open houses, more networking, more calling your Sphere of Influence, more knocking on FSBOs doors, etc. Let us not forget your income potential is unlimited regardless of market conditions.
Do not allow the Economy to control you…..make sure you are always in control!!
As Dave mentioned in the previous post we are down in DC at the Inc. 500 Conference and it has been awesome. As I am writing this post I am watching Seth Godin and Tom Peters on stage answering entrepreneurial questions and openly offering their like and different opinions. They are further discussing the importance of having a blog and the real time current issues that most privately held companies face week in and week out.
What strikes me is that the room is filled with people that for the most part “Get It” which as we watch and ask Seth and Tom questions we all get it, however, we are here because we want to “Get It” even better than what we do currently. The point being that your Success is dependent upon surrounding yourself with more and more people that “Get It” or who are truly able to get it by your Coaching and Training. You must get rid of dead weight that will never “Get It”. Always remember that Success Breeds Success!
Many of you will never climb Mount Everest or Scuba Dive along the great barrier reef. Most of you probably will not get your pilots license or ski the Alps (I have and it was awesome). A great number of you will not take the steps necessary to lose that extra 20+ pounds you are carrying around or go out and buy that sports car you have been dreaming about.
These and many other things are not going to happen in your life and not because you can’t do them but simply because you won’t. The won’t is because of you either simply do not want to do it or you simply do not believe you can do it. I am here to tell you that you can….but you gotta want it!!
Many of you will never make a six figure income in real estate or hit $500,000.00 in annual commissions….not because you can’t because you won’t. Most of you will not take the steps to put a solid real estate team and structure together with assistants and buyers agents…..not because you can’t, because you won’t. A great number of you will not take the steps necessary to ensure a strong real estate career by having enough leads/prospects at all times in your pipeline and utilizing a well structured follow up system….not because you can’t, because you won’t.
So, whatever your Mount Everest is make sure you are not climbing it because you absolutely do not want to and not because you think you can’t!!
Great is just not good enough anymore…It’s time to be Remarkable!! Stop being Lazy, Scared or Stupid throughout your career and your life and take your own expectations to the next level and be the most Remarkable person you know. HOW??? Close your eyes, take a deep breath, let it out, open your eyes….now get your “Head out of your Ass” and take everything up A NOTCH!! Seriously….you usually work 50 hours a week, now do 60+!! You typically call a lead 50 times for an appointment, now call it 100 times!! You usually run 4 miles on the treadmill, make it 5-6 miles!! You typically blame 2-3 different people per day for your problems, now look in the mirror and see the real problem!! You usually hit 100 golf balls at the driving range, now hit 200!! You typically ask for the sale one time during a sales call, now ask for it until you get the sale!!
Guess what….when you have mastered that new NOTCH I am going to be back at you for more!!
Two negatives definitely do not make a positive when it comes to having the proper mindset. If you are going to be negative…GO HOME!! If you are going to bring other people around you down….GO AWAY!! Negativity is a disease and you will never accomplish anything with a negative attitude. It does not matter how talented you are or even how educated you are…the person with the positive attitude and mindset will always win the game.
If you go into any situation with a poor attitude….you have already lost!!
For anyone in sales or business, you’ll get the point when you watch this video clip. If you don’t, get out of the business you’re in and go work in a 9-5 job. It’s about 6 minutes long…
I have always wanted to look back at what I have accomplished in life and be satisfied. I sometimes try to figure out what would completely satisfy my philanthropical wants. I feel that giving is important. I do not mean always giving to just poor people. I feel that people from all walks of life can benefit in different ways with what I have to offer. Rory, dave and myself talk regularly on how we can make a difference. Our successes have led us in a direction that has proven to us that we can make a difference in many different ways.
Yeah, we donate 5% of our gross income in GetMyHomesValue.com to different charities, do Habitat for Humanity, I personally contribute to other charities that my wife and I believe in, give money to the local high school band doing a fund raiser, etc. The list goes on. Donating these monies is empowering, but not as empowering as helping a businessperson become more successful so they can pass on their new found wisdom, education and income producing abilities to give them an edge so they can in turn feel comfortable to give more in terms of time and money to those who need it.
I think when people donate, they donate based on excess monies that they have. If we can help people achieve excess, then we can make a difference. Knowledge is power. Knowledge makes a difference. Nobody can ever take knowledge away from you.
You know who you are….you’re driving to work looking upset at the world or you’re the bank teller who struggles to answer any question with a smile or you’re the real estate agent who blames everyone but themselves for not getting a paycheck in over 90 days or you’re the waiter who does everything possible to not have a conversation with you because they cannot wait to get home.
How about the CEO, President or Vice President who mopes around the office and exudes no energy however, expects nothing but high levels of motivation and results….You know who you are with the bad case of Bitter Career Face and more importantly….everyone around you knows it too. Bitter Career Face is not a terminal illness and can be easily cured by first understanding that “YOU” control your career. If you do not like something in your career CHANGE IT or CHANGE CAREERS!!!
You need to have fun and be happy with your chosen profession and once you are having fun you will get rid of that Bitter Career Face.
