Are These Agents Lazy, Scared, or Stupid? You Decide!
I had the opportunity to take a few members of our staff to the Get Motivated! Seminar in Baltimore, MD last week. We had a blast and were fed some great information. Of course, we also were reminded to do many of the things that we already know to do but push aside.
Tom Hopkins, who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for most transaction sides closed during a 12 month period by a real estate agent, came out to discuss being successful in sales. There just so happened to be a group of real estate agents sitting directly in front of us. Tom was giving out invaluable advice and (like many of the agents we deal with every day) the agents in front of us were talking to each other, texting their friends on their cell phones, and doodling on pieces of paper.
Then the kicker. I was at Park City, a local shopping mall, the next day. A local Coldwell Banker office has a kiosk there. As I walked by the kiosk there was the agent sitting in his chair. Was he making follow up calls? No. Was he meeting people walking through the mall? No. He was playing an intense game of solitaire.
3% of real estate agents do 97% of the real estate business in this country and these are examples why. It’s ashame.
Here are some pics of the doodling and texting agents.
Here are more pictures from the event:

I would contend that it’s not only real estate agents who conduct their lives in this foolish way! How many people don’t hear, accept, listen, or care about great advice or thought? How many people are wrapped up in the solitare of a self-centered life and miss out on all the joyful, fulfilling opportunities life has for them!
I’m sorry. Were you saying something??? : )
I will remember this conference for the rest of my life. I took a LOT away from the speakers that day. It was so unfortunate that we had to witness and ultimately confirm that the agents of today have NO IDEA what it takes to be successful in real estate. I was sickened by these agents actions to say the least. Doodling and texting while a real estate mogul like Tom Hopkins is reaching out to them and telling them exactly what to do to be successfull!! I think we all were. Surprised though? I guess not. The bottom line is this, educate yourself daily with fresh new ideas, becasue the market is ever changing. Change is a beutiful thing when it is embraced with followed up with action. Listen to your successful predecessors, there’s a reason Tom sold 365 homes in one year. Something tells me he didn’t spend his time texting about what shoes go with what belt…
